(Republic of) South Korea
- It covers a total area of 99,392 square kilometers and has a population of 50 million. The capital and largest city is Seoul, with a population of 9.8 million.
- Like many democratic states,South Korea has a government divided into three branches: executive, judicial, and legislative.
- South Korea has a market economy which ranks 15th in the world by GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
- It's a former colony of Japan until they surrender it to the Allies, was split between the US and the USSR. The USSR had the north, and America had the south.
- It's the largest of the military branches of the South Korean armed forces.The army consists of 520,000 troops, 2,300 tanks, 2,500 armored vehicles, 5,200 artillery pieces, 30 guided missile systems, and 600 helicopters.
- The Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) has been active since Sept. 5, 1948 onward.

- Following the Korean War South Korea remained one of the poorest countries in the world for over a decade. In 1960 its gross domestic product per capita was $79, lower than most Latin American and some sub-Saharan African countries.
- South Korea had one of the world's fastest growing economies from the early 1960s to the late 1990s, and South Korea is still one of the fastest growing developed countries in the 2000s, along with Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan.
